Safe vehicles save lives

Tasmania has the oldest vehicle fleet in Australia. The average age is 12.8 years.

Many Tasmanians don’t benefit from improved safety features of new vehicles. This Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) campaign shows the devastating impact of a crash at 64km/h on an older car compared to a newer one.

Making safety the most important consideration when buying improves the chances of minimising injury or death in a crash.  ANCAP star rates new vehicles from 0 to 5 on level of occupant protection in a crash. The more stars, the better the protection.
